There are different housing options offered in Canada. You have the option to live in a house, town house, semi-detached house, apartment, and condominium, rented basement apartments. Housing costs differ from city to city and also depending on the location within the city. Apartments for rent or sale are advertised on the classified section of newspapers or the Internet. You have the choice between a furnished or unfurnished home.

Most apartments or houses come with several basic features including a stove with oven and a refrigerator. You also have to make sure that your house is warm during the winter. Most homes have their heat controlled using a thermostat. If you do not have a thermostat and need to reduce the heat in your home, you will have to ask your landlady/lord to adjust the heat.

You will also require to be connected to a telephone. Telephone service in Canada is a set cost each month and no extra charges are made for calls made within your city. If you make calls out of your city or out of the country(long-distance calls), you will have to pay extra. Today there are many options on how to make long distance calls in an inexpensive way. Most telephone service providers offer this services. You may also want to use phone cards that can be purchased at any convenient store. You will also have daily mail service. Depending on where you live, letters will be delivered to your home or apartment of to a central post office or local postal box. You can also mail your letters and small packages by placing them in one of the red Canada post mailboxes, which you can find in your neighborhood, near main streets or outside shopping stores.
