Welcome to Canada!
Making the move to move to a new country takes courage. It can be a chance for new beginnings. Getting to know your new surroundings and how to find your way around will go a long way in helping you settle down easily. In your first year, you will be busy looking for a place to live, schools for your children and finding a job.
You might adapt quickly or you might take time to adapt to Canada. The best way to adapt quickly is by getting involved with your new community. Ask questions whenever you require assistance.
Once you arrive in Canada, you will have access to information on settling in Canada. If you arrive by plane, you will be given a booklet titled "Welcome to Canada: what you need to know" a booklet that has information, addresses and telephone contacts to useful government offices and organizations serving immigrants. The telephone book (eg. yellow pages) is also a great way of getting information on organizations serving immigrants, government offices, and shopping stores. The public library will also be a source of information for you. Wherever you are, you can also contact Canada's 211.
